Congresswoman Tours BNSF Hobart Intermodal Terminal in Cities of Commerce and Vernon
The rail yard is among the nation’s busiest
Cities of Commerce and Vernon,
Sep 7, 2010 -
Representatives with the BNSF Hobart Intermodal Terminal located in Vernon and Commerce guided Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-34) on a tour of the container rail yard.
The Hobart rail yard is among the nation’s busiest and serves as a vital link to goods movement in Southern California. In 2008, more than one million containers moved by rail through the Hobart yard.
The Hobart representatives also provided the congresswoman with an update of the yard’s improvement plans. The plans include building a flyover bridge at 26th Street to link the Hobart yard to satellite facilities and implementing an innovative Auto Gate System Technology for trucks entering and leaving the rail yard. The project, which is supported by the congresswoman, is expected to significantly decrease truck traffic on Commerce streets and reduce nitrogen oxide and carbon dioxide emissions from trucks utilizing these improvements by about half.
