Rep. Wasserman Schultz Applauds President’s Vision for American Job Growth

WASHINGTON - Following President Obama’s speech about creating American jobs this evening, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL-20) released the following statement:

“Tonight we heard from our President about his vision for moving America forward. He described how the American Jobs Act will help make a difference right now to improve our economy and create jobs -now- without adding a cent to the deficit,” said Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL-20). “It’s fully paid for by closing corporate tax loopholes and asking the wealthiest Americans to pay their fair share."

“Next week we’ll be taking a look at the American Jobs Act here in Congress, and I plan to talk with my colleagues over the next week to encourage bipartisan support for this much-needed boost to our economy.

“The plan he outlined will cut taxes for companies that hire new workers and it will also cut payroll taxes in half for every working American and every small business. Once the American Jobs Act passes, small businesses will be able to get the capital they need to expand their operation and hire more workers. Since most Americans get their first job through a small business, and with 60 to 80 percent of new jobs coming from them, we must seize the opportunity to capitalize on this job-creating potential.

“It will also make it possible for the unemployed to return to work – from veterans, to teachers, to construction workers and first responders - while at the same time putting more money back into the pockets of working and middle class Americans.

“The President’s plan for immediate job growth builds on Democratic legislation, like Make it in America, that get our country back on the path to prosperity by investing in American jobs.  I look forward to joining my colleagues in voting for this historic legislation to create jobs and improve our economy now.”
