(Hollywood, FL)  --  Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz took part in yet another installment of her G.I.F.T. (GET IT FIXED TODAY) Program today at the Jubilee Center of South Broward's soup kitchen in Hollywood.  She served lunch at the Jubilee Center, and was joined by students and teachers from Palm Cove Elementary School, and UPS representatives and Volunteer Broward's executive director, Dale Hirsch.

Wasserman Schultz facilitated a canned food drive between Palm Cove and the soup kitchen in response to a Volunteer Broward call for help on behalf of Jubilee.  Last year, one of her flyers was spotted by a Palm Cove teacher and the school's student council donated a G.I.F.T. of more than 2,000 cans to the drive.   This year, the school surpassed that amount with more than three tons of canned goods in over 45 boxes.

The cans were picked up by UPS representatives from Palm Cove and delivered to the Jubilee Center.  The Jubilee Center, whose executive director is Tammy Morton, provides a soup kitchen, clothes closet, hygiene kits, emergency groceries, mental health counseling and HIV/AIDS testing. 

"It's impressive that these young people were able to conduct such a successful food drive," Wasserman Schultz said.  "It speaks volumes not only about each student's character, but also about their parents and their school.  I am increasingly hopeful and optimistic about America's future because of them."

The G.I.F.T. Program, which Wasserman Schultz started in August 2005, provides inspiration and encouragement for South Floridians from various backgrounds to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need in their own communities. Wasserman Schultz plans to continue facilitating the program throughout her career.

"Get It Fixed Today is a program that is designed to be a gift that keeps on giving," said Wasserman Schultz.  "Each member of our community should remember their responsibility for those who are less fortunate than they are and they should be given as many opportunities as possible to act on that responsibility, especially during the holiday season."
