(Hollywood, FL)  --  Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz took part in the second installment of her G.I.F.T. (GET IT FIXED TODAY) Program today at the Jubilee Center of South Broward's soup kitchen in Hollywood.  She served lunch at the Jubilee Center, and was joined by students and teachers from Palm Cove Elementary, UPS representatives and Volunteer Broward's executive director, Dale Hirsch.

Wasserman Schultz conducted a canned food drive at her Pembroke Pines office in response to a Volunteer Broward call for help on behalf of the Jubilee Center.  One of her flyers was spotted by a Palm Cove teacher and the school's student council donated a G.I.F.T. of more than 2,000 cans to the drive.

"It's impressive that these young people were able to conduct such a successful food drive," Wasserman Schultz said.  "It speaks volumes not only about each student's character, but also about their parents and their school.  I am increasingly hopeful and optimistic about America's future because of them."

The cans were delivered to Wasserman Schultz's office, then picked up by UPS representatives and delivered to the Jubilee Center.  The Jubilee Center, whose executive director is Tammy Morton, provides a soup kitchen, clothes closet, hygiene kits, emergency groceries, mental health counseling and HIV/AIDS testing. 

The G.I.F.T. Program, which Wasserman Schultz kicked off in August, will provide inspiration for South Floridians from various backgrounds to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need in their own communities. Wasserman Schultz plans to continue facilitating the program throughout her career.

"Get It Fixed Today is a program that is designed to be a gift that keeps on giving," said Wasserman Schultz.  "Each member of our community should remember their responsibility to those who are less fortunate than they are and they should be given as many opportunities to act on that sense of responsibility as possible.especially during the holiday season."
