BALTIMORE – U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD) today attended a job fair to help disabled residents of the Baltimore area find jobs.  America Works of Maryland sponsored the job fair titled Back-to-Work Book Camp to provide hundreds of disabled Marylanders who are receiving Social Security Supplemental Income or Social Security Disability Insurance (SSI/SSDI) with employment counseling and other resources so they can enter the workforce.

“Americans with disabilities deserve equal access and opportunity to succeed in the workplace," said Senator Cardin.  “I particularly want to thank America Works for hosting this Back-to-Work Boot Camp and providing important support and resources for individuals who want to enter the workforce.  We need them and it's important that members of the disabled community get the counseling they need to find meaningful work.”

America Works Of Maryland, Inc. Chief Executive Officer Dr. Lee Bowes said “We are very excited to host this first ever Back-To-Work Boot Camp for people with disabilities. We hope that this Back-To-Work Boot Camp will be a successful national model in the mission of helping to put Americans with Disabilities back-to-work”.

“For over 28 years our work first model has helped to move hundreds of thousands of people into full time employment. We are confident that our model when administered with the boot camp program will become a new successful way to put people with disabilities back-to-work,” said America Works Of Maryland, Inc. Founder Peter Cove.

America Works was founded in 1984 by Peter Cove and it has helped find jobs for hard-to-place workers, including military veterans, long-term welfare and food stamp recipients, former criminal offenders, people who are homeless and living in shelters, youths aging out of foster care, non-custodial parents, people living with HIV/AIDS, and people receiving SSI/SSDI.
