Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, met with the First Lady of Haiti, Mrs. Sophia Martelly. During their meeting, the two discussed Mrs. Martelly’s work in Haiti to fight the prevalence of HIV/AIDS.

Rubio also met with UNAIDS Executive Director Michel Sidibé and musician Sir Elton John, a leader in the fights against HIV/AIDS and founder of the Elton John AIDS Foundation. They discussed collaborative efforts to combat AIDS involving the private sector, non-profit organizations and faith-based groups. 

Mrs. Martelly, Mr. Sidibé and Sir Elton John are in Washington for the 19th Annual International AIDS Conference in which Rubio will participate tomorrow.
