Congressman Randy Forbes

This week the United States Supreme Court will hear arguments relating to the Arizona immigration law.

The Support Our Law Enforcement and Safe Neighborhoods Act, also known as SB1070, mandates that police officers in Arizona inquire the immigration status of people they stop for other reasons if they suspect they may be in the country illegally, and makes it a criminal offense to be an illegal immigrant in the state of Arizona.

Arizona argues that their law complements federal law and makes it more efficient, while the Obama administration argues that it oversteps state powers.

Question of the Week: Should states be allowed to regulate illegal immigration?

(  ) Yes, the federal government has failed in protecting our borders.
(  ) No, it's the job of the federal government and not the state's.
(  ) I am unsure.
(  ) Other.
