Cutting Spending

Cutting Spending

Out of control spending in Washington is on an unsustainable path and there is no question it needs to stop.  With trillion dollar deficits and record debt, Congress must stop the spending and enact fiscally responsible measures to get our nation back on a path to prosperity.

The 111th Congress failed to pass a budget or any of the bills required to fund the federal government for FY2011 (September 2010-October 2011), leaving the government funded by a series of continuing resolutions. On February 19th the House passed a final continuing resolution, H.R. 1, to keep the government running through the remaining seven months of the fiscal year.  This comprehensive bill cut more than $100 billion from the President’s budget request and is a good first step toward getting runaway spending under control.

Our nation can no longer afford to continue to spend recklessly and with no regard to the debt being accumulated that is being passed along to future generations. During these tough economic times, American families and small businesses are tightening their belts to live within their means. In order to eliminate this out of control spending, Congress must do the same.

While making the tough choices about when and where to reduce is never easy, I hope we can agree the future of our Republic depends on our ability to rein in federal spending. I look forward to your continued input as Congress works on a compromise with the Senate and the President on the FY2011 Continuing Resolution and shortly begins work on the FY2012 budget. I am committed to ending the spending spree in Washington and vow to do my best to stop it.
