Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren (D-San Jose, Calif.) called on DREAM Act eligible students, better known as DREAMers, to come forward and apply for protection known as "deferred action" which the Obama administration will begin to offer on August 15, 2012. The new program, recently announced by President Obama, will prevent the deportation of young immigrants known as Dreamers who were brought to the US as children.

Until then, Congresswoman Lofgren warned DREAMers there is nothing to apply for and people should be careful not to fall for any immigration scams. Instead, potential Dreamers with questions should turn to trusted community-based organizations for help, or consult a reputable attorney if you have specific concerns.

This occurred during an August 2, 2012, press conference at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., organized by Congressman Luis V. Gutierrez (D-IL).
