Leader Cantor Condemns Call for Israeli Boycott

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Majority Leader Eric Cantor released the following statement in response to Richard Falk's call for an Israeli Boycott:

"I condemn the deeply flawed and biased anti-Israel report calling for boycotts of international companies operating in Israel that was released yesterday by Richard Falk, who was empowered by the United Nations Human Rights Council to serve as the UN Special Rapporteur for the Palestinian Territories. Falk's lack of objectivity and his offensive commentary about the attacks of September 11 are well-known, and his continued role as a Special Rapporteur further demonstrates the tragic failure of the UN Human Rights Council.  Some of the world's worst human rights abusers -- including China, Cuba, and Russia -- are members of this organization, so it is not surprising that its Special Rapporteur would produce such a biased and politicized document.

"What remains surprising is that the Obama Administration chose to legitimize this rogues' gallery by joining the Council in 2009. I call upon the next U.S. President to withdraw from the Council or seek systemic reforms of its membership and special rapporteurs."
