NELSON AND EDUCATORS AGREE LOW STUDENT LOAN RATES MUST BE EXTENDED

June 27, 2012 – Nebraska's Senator Ben Nelson issued this statement in response to the University of Nebraska's President James Milliken's letter of support for the extension of low student loan rates.

"President Milliken's letter of concern for the change in the student loan interest from 3.4 percent to 6.8 percent is one that I whole heartedly agree with. It is my priority to ensure that the more than 23,000 Nebraskan undergraduate students who rely on these low interest loans will continue to have access to affordable higher education. This week I'll be working with my colleagues to guarantee an extension to this important provision."
