Peter Loken, NMI 2012 Teacher of the Year

Mr. Peter Benjamin Loken of Garapan Elementary School has been recognized as the Public School System 2012 Teacher of the Year. As Northern Mariana Islands Teacher of the Year, Mr. Loken becomes eligible to be selected the national Teacher of the Year. In April he will represent the NMI at a series of events, honoring teachers in Washington, DC, including a meeting with President Barack Obama. The Board of Education and PSS invited me to participate in the Education Week activities, which culminated with the TOY announcement, but included various awards and accolades given to many other deserving teachers. Congratulations and thanks to Mr. Loken and all our public and private school teachers for the work they do ensuring our students have successful lives.
