Agriculture

Agriculture is a traditional and major component of the Mississippi economy, representing a nearly $7.0 billion industry that produces a wide variety of crops, goods and services for the state, nation and, increasingly, for the international markets.

Senator Cochran is a long-time member and former chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, in addition to serving on the Senate Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee.  As such, he works to support programs and policies to allow agriculture and related industries to grow in Mississippi and the nation.  In the face of budget constraints and growing global competition, Senator Cochran is dedicated to advocating strong policies that will sustain and broaden Mississippi and America’s leading roles in agriculture.
