As the parent agency for the U.S. Coast Guard and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the U.S. Department of Homeland Security plays an important role in Mississippi. Senator Cochran serves on the appropriations subcommittee that funds the Homeland Security Department and the agencies under its jurisdiction.
Senator Cochran has worked closely with FEMA and other federal agencies to ensure that Mississippians are well cared for before and after natural disasters like hurricanes, floods, tornadoes and other events. The Senator has also worked to ensure that the Coast Guard has the resources it needs to fulfill its inland, coastal and deepwater missions.
In addition, Senator Cochran is dedicated to programs and policies that will protect the United States homeland from domestic and foreign terrorist threats.
