Health & Education

As the son of educators, Senator Cochran strongly believes in the value of education not only for Mississippians as individuals, but as an important overall factor for the future betterment of the state.   The Senator also understands that improving the general health of Mississippians is essential across all social and economic backgrounds, not only because it improves the quality of life, but because it also promotes educational achievement.

Senator Cochran, as a member of the Senate appropriations subcommittee that funds federal education and health programs, is dedicated to ensuring that federal resources are available to address the chronic health needs of the poor in Mississippi and to advance medical research at the state’s universities.  In addition, he promotes programs to accelerate literacy, learning and educational achievement in elementary and secondary schools.
