House Republicans Urge Obama Admin to Approve Job-Creating Keystone XL Pipeline Expansion

At a press conference led by Rep. Tim Griffin (R-AR) today, House Republicans once again called on the Obama administration to approve the expansion of the Keystone XL energy pipeline, which could create more than 20,000 new American jobs.  Here is a photo from the event:

Yesterday, House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) met with Alberta Premier Alison Redford to discuss the Obama administration’s decision to delay approval of this energy project and reaffirmed Republicans’ commitment to move the project forward.  As several editorial boards, government officials and labor organizations have noted, delaying the Keystone XL pipeline is nothing more than a “poorly disguised political stunt” and an insult to the nearly 14 million unemployed Americans still asking the question: “Where are the jobs?”  Republicans agree with President Obama that “we can’t wait” to begin putting Americans back to work, which is why this fully-vetted, environmentally-sound project – and the 20,000 jobs it would create – should not be “sacrificed in the name of political expediency,” as Speaker Boehner has said

Earlier this year, the House passed the North-American Made Energy Security (NAMES) Act that would have required a decision to be made by the Obama administration on the Keystone XL project by November 1.  The NAMES Act is one of the 20 House-passed jobs bills Senate Democrats continue to block, at the expense of American workers.  Learn more at jobs.GOP.gov.
