Johanns Statement on the CLASS Act

WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Mike Johanns (R-Neb.) today issued the following statement on the Administration’s announcement it would cease to implement the CLASS Act – a major piece of the health care law of 2010:

"Today’s announcement is yet another example of the law’s unrealistic expectations and unfulfilled promises,” said Johanns. “We had plenty of warning that the CLASS Act was chock-full of phony savings and other deficiencies– some of which came from the law’s supporters in Congress and the Administration’s own health care experts. Regrettably, backers of the bill were too busy hastily cramming it through Congress to pay attention to their own sound policy analysis. It’s unfortunate that at a time of trillion-dollar annual deficits, millions of taxpayer dollars were wasted attempting to implement a plan we already knew was destined for insolvency and failure.”
