WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Mike Johanns (R-Neb.) issued the following statement regarding the Supreme Court's announcement it will be ruling on the constitutionality of the new health care law:
"By mandating every American purchase government-approved insurance, the health care law was an unprecedented power grab outside the bounds of Congressional authority enumerated in the Constitution," Johanns said. "This law was destined for Supreme Court review and I applaud the Court for recognizing the need to consider it. If the individual mandate stands, it would be a landmark moment for the expansion of federal power, and I trust the Court to rule otherwise."
