TRANSCRIPT: Johanns Thanks Nebraskans for Feedback During August

Senator Johanns: As the background indicates, I am standing right in front of Chimney Rock, truly one of the most beautiful places in the state. What a great place to say thank you to everyone who has participated in my round table discussions and my many town hall meetings over the past few weeks. Thank you for participating and being a part of the process.

Let me tell you that I have heard the message loud and clear. I am going to do everything that I can to try to get a farm bill passed.   I will do everything that I can to help with drought programs. Everywhere that I have gone I have seen the evidence of a horrific drought in our state and other states for that matter. This summer has been really, really difficult and tough.

The other thing that I want to say to people is that as member of the Group of Eight - who are negotiating and trying to get a way forward on our budget and our spending and our deficit - I’m not going to let up. I do think that this is the issue of our time. If we can’t get our spending under control, set our government in a better direction, then there isn’t anything that works out very well.

I would go to these town hall meetings and see the young people, hopeful about the future, believing that the best days are ahead. I want to make sure that I do my part and make sure that the best days are ahead of us.

I’ll end these comments where I began, I want to say that you to everyone and God bless you all.
