Mack Backs Bill to Prevent More Toxic Drywall in Florida

WASHINGTON - Today Congressman Connie Mack (FL-14) issued the following statement upon passage of the Contaminated Drywall Safety Act, which requires the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to declare all Chinese drywall a hazardous material. An estimated 7,500 homes in Florida and other Gulf states were contaminated with defective Chinese drywall. The faulty drywall has not only made some homes ‘unlivable,' but has also caused health problems for occupants.

“Too many Floridians have been negatively affected by defective, toxic Chinese drywall” Mack said. “Many families have been drained financially because of home repairs and medical bills as a direct result of contaminated drywall. Today’s vote prevented toxic drywall from having a devastating effect on more Americans.”
