U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson (MO-08) commented on the introduction of the FY2011 Continuing Resolution.

The Financial Services and General Government portion of the Continuing Resolution includes a $3.8 billion reduction in spending, a 16 percent cut from FY 2010.

"Making reductions of this magnitude is challenging, but given the fiscal situation facing the nation, an increasing necessity.  The limited funding in this bill is focused on the highest priority programs to support security for the courts, counter-terrorism and financial intelligence operations, and drug task forces.  At the same time, the White House and the U.S. Treasury should set an example for the rest of the Executive Branch, so the bill includes funding reductions in those areas as well as eliminates funding for construction or major alterations to federal buildings," Emerson said.

"Taken as a whole, the Continuing Resolution proves spending can be cut and the scope of government reduced in a manner which assures the most crucial functions of the federal government continue to serve the American people."

Emerson serves as the Chairman of the Financial Services and General Government Appropriations Subcommittee.
