Udall Welcomes Passage of Bipartisan Legislation to Avert Government Shutdown

Posted: Saturday, September 22, 2012

Mark Udall issued the following statement, thanking lawmakers in the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives for reaching a bipartisan deal on legislation to avert a shutdown of the federal government:

“Today’s passage of the Continuing Resolution, while not perfect, is exactly the type of compromise and bipartisan solution that Coloradans expect. I hope that we are able to exhibit the same pragmatic, bipartisan approach to passing the wind Production Tax Credit, a balanced deficit-reduction plan and all the other important issues still facing our country.”

The Continuing Resolution keeps the federal government running for the next six months and averts a government shutdown. Udall previously voiced his concerns about the bill’s lack of funding for the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Emergency Watershed Protection Program, and introduced an amendment to correct this problem. Udall’s amendment, which Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Colo.) co-sponsored, did not come up for a vote.

The Emergency Watershed Program is critical for communities, like Larimer and El Paso counties, that need assistance to remediate their watersheds following wildfires.
