Greetings,
I hope you will all have the chance to enjoy the 4th of July celebrations with family, barbeque, and fireworks.
This time of year there is another activity that happens—new cadets and midshipmen enter our nation’s military academies for their induction into service on behalf of our nation. I recall, all too vividly, my first day at West Point exactly 30 years ago this week. Attending and graduating from West Point was one of the greatest privileges I’ve been given by America in my life.
These young men and women, now just a few weeks out of high school, competed against tens of thousands of other great young Americans for the chance to attend our nation’s premier military leadership institutions. This week they are learning how to salute, how to assemble and disassemble weapons and the self-discipline that comes with being part of the finest military that history has ever known.
Here in Kansas’ 4th Congressional District, I have had the privilege of nominating four future leaders to our nation’s military service academies:
Mr. Anthony Baldessari
Wichita, Kansas
United States Naval Academy
2012 Graduate of
Kapaun Mt. Carmel
|
Ms. Rachel Kenagy
Wichita, Kansas
United States Military Academy
2012 Graduate of
Wichita East High School
|
|
|
Mr. Landon Smalley
Derby, Kansas
United States Air Force Academy
2012 Graduate of
Missouri Military Academy
|
Mr. Matthew Womacks
Atlanta, Kansas
United States Air Force Academy
2012 Graduate of
Bluestem High School |
I want to wish each of them—and their families—the best of luck as they enter these uniquely American schools.
As you watch fireworks and enjoy the company of friends and family, please take a moment to remember those who fought for our independence. These brave men and women embody the oft-quoted words, “freedom isn’t free.” Please thank those who are currently serving in our armed services—they selflessly provide us the right and the opportunity to celebrate our nation’s 236th Anniversary in safety.
Today and every day let us feel honored to live in the land of the free.
Regards,
Mike Pompeo
Member of Congress
