Defense

Defense is an increasingly complex issue.  In the midst of two wars, our nation faces a soaring national debt that places tremendous pressure on the defense budget.  However, we must still ensure that our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines have all of the essential resources in order to protect themselves, our country and our national interests.  Our nation faces an era of perpetual conflict where the United States is threatened by state and non-state actors. We must be prepared for the wars of the future, as well as remain focused on successfully concluding the current conflicts.

While the Department of Defense is primarily responsible for our national security, The Department of Homeland Security plays an increasingly important role in preventing as well as responding to any type of disaster, whether it be natural  or man-made. We do not know how or when terrorists plan to attack our freedom and liberty next, and it is imperative that we be prepared on all levels. To read more about homeland security click here.

As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, which is responsible for deciding how the federal budget is spent, I serve on the Defense Subcommittee which oversees all military-related funding. With the First District home to Moody Air Force Base, Fort StewartHunter Army Airfield and Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base I have a special interest in America’s defense abilities.
