WASHINGTON, D.C.—U.S. Senators John D. (Jay) Rockefeller IV, Charles E. Schumer, Kirsten Gillibrand and Congressman Peter King will join a group of 9/11 first responders who are visiting Washington, D.C. to ask Senators to support legislation to provide first responders with critical interoperable radio airwaves needed to effectively communicate in the event a major response is needed.
Creating such a network was one of the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission Report—which said that insufficient interoperability at the World Trade Center hampered efforts and may have cost many lives.
Participants to include:
- Chairman John D. (Jay) Rockefeller IV, Senate Commerce Committee
- U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer
- U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand
- Chairman Peter King, House Homeland Security Committee
- John Feal and 9/11 first responders from New York
Please note the press conference will also be webcast live via the Senate Commerce Committee website at http://commerce.senate.gov. Refresh the Commerce Committee homepage 10 minutes prior to the scheduled start time to view the webcast.
