Statement by Chairman Graves on the October Jobs Report

WASHINGTON— House Small Business Committee Chairman Sam Graves (R-MO) today released the following statement in response to the report by the U.S. Department of Labor that the unemployment rate increased in October to 7.9 percent:

“This President’s same old anti-growth policies of more taxes, more government and more uncertainty aren’t getting us to the robust job creation we need. For four years, we’ve waited for a recovery that puts Americans back in good jobs. American small businesses will do their part as job creators when the government gets out of the way. Too much red tape, rising health care costs and tax uncertainty are stifling job creation as a direct result of the President’s policies. When 23 million people need more work and can’t find it, the country needs new solutions.”

The U.S. House of Representatives, under Republican leadership, has made small businesses and economic growth a priority. The House voted to stop the tax hikes entirely, and passed nearly 40 bills to reduce regulations and create jobs, but the Senate has failed to act. Read the House Republicans’ Plan for America’s Job Creators that will give small businesses the certainty they need to hire again.
