SARBANES ANNOUNCES HHS GRANTS FOR HEALTH INFORMATION EXCHANGES (1/27/2011)
Washington, DC – As part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene will receive $1,683,171 from the Department of Health and Human Services.  This allotment is part of the Health Information Exchange (HIE) Challenge Grant Program, which provides grantees in the State HIE Cooperative Agreement Program with the funds to develop solutions to overcome barriers of HIE implementation

SARBANES CONGRATULATES MARYLAND DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION AS A "RACE TO THE TOP" GRANT WINNER (8/24/2010)
TOWSON – As part of the U.S. Department of Education’s “Race to the Top” competitive grants program, the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) has been awarded $250 million.  MSDE will use the funds to revise the state curriculum, assessments and accountability system based on common core standards; build a statewide technology infrastructure to help inform instruction; help better prepare and support Maryland teachers and principals; and engage in innovative ways to transform low-achieving schools and districts.

SARBANES ANNOUNCES RECOVERY ACT FUNDING TO EXPAND WEATHERIZATION WORKFORCE TRAINING CENTERS IN MARYLAND (6/4/2010)

Towson – Today, the Department of Energy announced that 34 projects in 27 states were selected to receive $29 million under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to develop and expand weatherization training centers across the country.

SARBANES ANNOUNCES $20 MILLION AWARD FOR MARYLAND'S GREEN ENERGY INITIATIVES (4/21/2010)
Washington, DC – Today, Congressman John Sarbanes announced that the Department of Energy’s is awarding $20 million for the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) for the “Investing in Main Street: Energy Efficiency for Economic Growth.”  Earlier today, Vice President Biden confirmed that 25 communities, including Maryland, were selected for $452 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding to increase energy efficiency building remodeling.

DEFENSE AUTHORIZATION REQUESTS FOR FORT MEADE (3/18/2010)

Congressman Sarbanes recognizes the need to have transportation and infrastructure in place to support the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure Commission (BRAC) growth around Fort Meade.  In the next two to four years, several agencies will be relocating to Fort Meade as part of BRAC. The large increase in employment and development will contribute to increased traffic volume in the area.  There is a strong need to improve the roads leading to Fort Meade as well as on the base.  Congressman Sarbanes forwarded the following transportation requests for Fort George G. Meade to the House Committee on Armed Services for consideration during the fiscal year 2011 Defense Authorization legislation.
