Roads and Bridges
Senator Franken supports a long-term, comprehensive reauthorization of the federal transportation bill so that Minnesota can make long-term investments in transportation infrastructure. Minnesota's roads and bridges must be modernized to ensure that they are safe, reliable, and efficient. There are shovel-ready road and bridge upgrade projects across the state that will put people back to work modernizing transportation infrastructure for the 21st century.
The federal surface transportation bill provides the bulk of funding for highway projects across the country. The 2005 surface transportation bill expired in September 2009, and since then Congress has passed a series of short-term extensions. As the Senate crafts its transportation bill, Senator Franken will work to ensure that any legislation benefits Minnesota communities and enhances the state of Minnesota's transportation and transit infrastructure.
