Living in the 13th District

The 13th District is home to nearly 800,000 residents and is one of the fastest growing districts in Illinois.  In fact, two of our communities (Plainfield and Romeoville) number among the top twenty-five in the Census Bureau’s latest list of fastest-growing cities in Illinois and Naperville and Aurora ranks in the top five most populated cities in Illinois.

Those moving into our District come from a wide array of cultures and ethnicities, adding to an already rich cultural pool. Recognizing the inherent value of such diversity, our communities continually seek to highlight the area’s unique cultural variety.  As a result, our suburban villages and towns boast an exciting degree of worldliness not usually found outside America’s urban metropolises.

Our region’s award-winning school districts rank among the finest in the nation, reflecting a strong commitment to our children. In fact, Naperville, the largest city in the district (population 141,853), has been named by an independent Washington, D.C., research group, as the best city in the United States for raising children and one of the best places to live by Money Magazine.  In 2009, BusinessWeek Magazine rated Tinley Park located in the southeast corner of the 13th District, as one of the Best Places in American to Raise Kids – scoring it the highest among 800 communities for livability.

The 13th Congressional District has a robust transportation infrastructure with easy access to I-55, I-355, I-88 and I-294.  Additionally, the Metra commuter rail system runs through the 13th District with more than a dozen stations in Clarendon Hills, Downers Grove, Hinsdale, Lemont, Lisle, Naperville, Palos Park, Tinley Park, and Westmont.  Residents also enjoy transportation options through Pace Bus Service, and are minutes from O’Hare and Midway International Airports.

Whether for a picnic, sports, or just a stroll - residents of the 13th District frequently take advantage of our numerous parks and forest preserves.  Some notable sites include the Morton Arboretum in Lisle and Naperville’s River Walk, a major reason the city was named by Walking Magazine the "Most Walkable City" in the United States.  The 13th Congressional District offers a unique balance of economic development and open space.

Shopping centers like the Fox Valley Outlet Mall in Aurora and Oakbrook Terrace, golf courses, festivals, and concerts also provide exciting recreational outlets.
