Guantánamo Bay

I am adamantly opposed to the Obama Administration’s plans to transfer terrorist detainees from the Guantánamo Bay Naval Base in Cuba to the Thomson Correctional Center in Illinois.  Closing Guantánamo and relocating the world’s most dangerous terrorists to a federal prison in Illinois will not improve the security and safety of 300 million Americans.  I strongly disagree with the Administration’s intent to grant these military combatants the rights and privileges of our civilian court system.  Instead, they should be tried before military tribunals.  Military commissions are constitutional and well established in American and Western jurisprudence, and are better suited than our civilian courts to try enemy combatants captured on the battlefield.
