Pushing Onward

October 5, 2012
Dear Friends,

Numbers don't lie; the drop in unemployment rate to 7.8 percent in September shows that President Barack Obama's plan to get America working again and rebuild our economy is working -- and has been for 24 consecutive months since he took office. The Republicans can try to criticize the pace of improvement, but they have done nothing to help create jobs during their time in the House majority. The first debate between President Obama and Governor Romney made the choice clear and easy for the American people. The Governor plans to roll back the progress we have made as a nation under this administration to bring fairness and opportunity for all Americans. Democrats stand by the President’s vision for America: to push for sensible solutions that will create jobs, balance the budget, revamp the economy, and strengthen small businesses and the middle class. We believe in building ladders of opportunity for anyone willing to work hard, take responsibility, and play by the rules.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month

“Domestic Violence Awareness Month is an opportunity for us to become more conscious of the silent suffering of victims of domestic violence that devastates individuals, families, and communities. With nearly 5.3 million domestic violence incidents each year, this is a serious problem we must address as a society.

Domestic violence comes in many forms outside of just physical abuse. There is an increasing frequency of economic abuse that is out of the public eye and is often overlooked. Economic abuse involves the use of finances to control a victim's ability to go about life. Even though domestic violence can happen to anyone, the majority of the incidences are against women.

Please call the New York City Domestic Violence Hotline if you or someone you know is a victim of domestic violence and want to talk to a trained counselor, call (800) 621-HOPE free, 24 hours a day.
