Greatest Nation on Earth
July 6, 2012
Dear Friends,
This week we celebrated 236 years of America's independence from England and the 48th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act. On July 4th, 1776, American colonists united to sign the Declaration of Independence. Putting their differences aside, they worked together to build a country where individuals would be free of religious persecution and discrimination. Hundreds of years later, the United States of America evolved to become a beacon of diversity and endless opportunities. We must
continue to build a country where everyone has a right to access quality education, affordable healthcare, and adequate housing. Everyone in America should have an equal opportunity to achieve the American Dream regardless of political affiliation, gender, or the color of his or her skin. I am proud that our congressional district in Upper Manhattan shines as a testament to the multiple races, ethnicities and cultures that define, characterize, and enrich our country.
