Help America Vote

October 26, 2012
Dear Friends,

Monday, October 29th marks the 10th anniversary of the passage of the Help America Vote Act. Congress passed this legislation after the fiasco in Florida in 2000 to ensure that everyone has access to the polls and that every vote counts. The passage of the Help America Vote Act continues the great tradition that was established by passage of the Constitution and the six Voting Rights Amendments. Despite all that we have fought and sacrificed to expand access to the ballot box, new restrictive voting laws have been introduced and passed in many states across the country since the beginning of 2011. It is important that we work to pass the Voter Empowerment Act to reverse these laws because the ability to vote is what makes our country so special.

With the elections eleven days away, I urge everyone to vote and to make sure they tell their friends and family to do the same. For more information on where to go to vote on November 6th, please visit http://www.vote.nyc.ny.us/html/voters/where.shtml.
