Guest Blog: No To Budget Cuts

The following entry was submitted by Jacob Jackson, a student at the Children's Aid Society Millbank Bridge Center:

Hi my name is Jacob Torres Jackson and I attend the Children’s Aid Society Milbank Bridge Program. I am 14 years old and in the 8th Grade. I would like to tell you some things the Milbank Center offers. It has tutoring, which we can all benefit from and it helps get our grades up. We also have cooking so when we grow up and are on our own and have our own children we can cook healthier foods. We have art and most of the kids love art. Some of us are artists; we like to do different things in art like paint bottles and other cool things. The center also offers recreation, sports, and we go on trips. Milbank keeps us kids out of the street.

Three weeks ago I got my report card and the first place I went to was Milbank. I wanted to show the staff my improvement. The staff was so proud of me and I was so proud of myself because the staff told me I did so great. That’s what I wanted and needed to hear from my family at Milbank.

For Christmas, I got most of my gifts from Milbank. I got an Xbox! I am so grateful for all they do for me!

The reason why I want the program at Milbank to remain open is because the program teaches us lessons and prepares us for the future. It’s not only important to me but also to my peers. It’s important that we all speak out against the budget cuts that can affect us youth!

No to budget cuts!!!!
