Washington, Dec 7, 2011 - Seniors and people with disabilities who receive Medicare should review their current plans before midnight PST on December 7 to make sure the plan they will have in 2012 best fits their healthcare needs.

Before midnight, Medicare recipients can change from Original Medicare to a Medicare Advantage Plan or change from a Medicare Advantage Plan to Original Medicare. They can also make changes to their Part D prescription coverage. Changes made by December 7 will take effect on January 1. Plans can be reviewed using the
Medicare Plan Finder.

During the next enrollment period, which takes place between January 1 and February 14, recipients can only leave their Medicare Advantage Plan and enroll in Original Medicare. No changes to Medicare Advantage Plans are allowed during this period.

According to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, the Affordable Care Act has helped save 2.65 million people with Medicare more than $1.5 billion on prescriptions – an average of about $569 per person. More than 24.2 million Medicare recipients have also used at least one free preventative benefit made possible by the law.
