Will Hill Dems keep Obama in line on entitlements?

Rep. Lynn WoolseyCongresswoman (D-Calif.) :

I’m not really concerned about the political implications of entitlement cuts. I’m concerned about the real-life implications for hard-working Americans who depend on these programs.

Social Security and Medicare didn’t cause our fiscal problems; they don’t need to be part of the solution. Leave them off the table in these negotiations. They’re not an ATM machine to go to every time Republicans say we have to tighten our belts. Let’s do more to help the middle class through this recession instead of asking them to assume more sacrifice.

Rather than cutting benefits, how about we get savings by allowing Medicare to negotiate lower drug prices? And if we’re really serious about balancing the budget, why don’t we start with repealing tax cuts for the very wealthiest and ending three foreign wars?
