FY2013 Appropriations Request Form
Dear Community Member,
With the end of the year approaching, it is time to start thinking about federal appropriations for Fiscal Year (FY) 2013.
As you know, last year, Congress instituted a ban on earmarks despite objections from me and other Senators who know firsthand the importance of this funding for states like Alaska. My understanding is this ban will continue for FY 2013, in which case once again we will be unable to request funding for specific locations or projects.
That said, I will continue to stand up for Alaska by pursuing programmatic funding to support our great state. I’m asking you to submit your top three priority projects [link to form] so that I am aware of the needs throughout Alaska. I believe there are many worthy Alaska projects, which protect lives and safety, or create jobs for Alaskans. I look forward to finding other avenues besides earmarks to support Alaska communities through federal funding.
In addition to your priority projects, please send me a letter with the names of any federal programs that you believe to be crucial for Alaska’s communities.
Thank you for all you do for your communities and for our state. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Liz Brinkerhoff-Nottberg (general form), Lindsay Kavanaugh (DoD), at 202-224-3004, or send an e-mail with your inquiry to appropriations@begich.senate.gov.
As I have done for previous years’ requests, I will publicly post all FY2013 requests on my website. All requests must be received by my office by 5:00pm AKST February 25, 2012.
Senator Mark Begich
