Woolsey Unveils Legislative Agenda for The New Congress

WASHINGTON, D.C.— On the first day of the 112th Congress, Rep. Lynn Woolsey, D-Calif., unveiled much of her legislative agenda, introducing three Congressional bills and three resolutions.

“These proposals address some of the issues that have been important to me since I arrived in Washington 18 years ago,” said Woolsey. “My fight to protect our beautiful Sonoma Coast, the rights of women, and the safety of workers continues, as does my effort to extend health care to all in a time of financial challenge. And, most important, my quest for peace is never ending.”

The bills:

The Public Option Deficit Reduction Act, which would trim billions from the federal deficit and make health insurance more affordable.

The Gulf of the Farallones and Cordell Bank National Marine Sanctuaries Boundary Modification and Protection Act, which would extend these sanctuaries north and westward to protect the Sonoma Coast’s natural beauty and significant bio-diversity.

Protecting America’s Workers Act (PAWA), which would help bring the Occupational Safety and Health Act into the 21st Century by offering the first substantial amendments to the act since it was passed 40 years ago.

The resolutions:

Calling for the adoption of a smart security platform for the 21st century focused on  nonproliferation, conflict  prevention, international diplomacy, and multilateralism.

Expressing the sense of the House of Representatives that the Senate should ratify the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW).

Recognizing non-proliferation options for nuclear understanding to keep everyone safe.
