“Every day America loses 1,700 Veterans, and with them go their stories of wartime duty,” said Rep. Woolsey. “To honor their service to our nation, I am proud to support the Veterans History Project and to work with the Novato High School ROTC Cadets to ensure that stories from local veterans are kept for future generations as part of this national project with the Library of Congress.”

Motivated by a desire to honor our nation's war veterans and to collect their stories and experiences while they are still among us, the United States Congress created the Veterans History Project. The Veterans History Project was supported by Rep. Lynn Woolsey and her Congressional colleagues and was signed into law by President Clinton on October 27, 2000. The law calls upon the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress to collect and preserve audio- and video-taped oral histories, along with documentary materials such as letters, diaries, maps, photographs, and home movies, of America's war veterans and those who served in support of them. Although you may have missed this meeting, please feel free to contact Rep. Woolsey’s office so that your stories can be included in this national effort.
