Woolsey Honored by National Children's Group

-Receives perfect score on issues facing children in latest Congress-

WASHINGTON, DC - A lifelong advocate on behalf of our nation’s children, Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey today was named one of the “Best Representatives for Children,” by the Children’s Defense Fund Action Council (CDF).  Woolsey earned a 100% voting record on children’s issues during the 109th Congress.

“I applaud Representative Woolsey for her commitment to improving the lives of children in California,” said CDF President Marian Wright Edelman.  “While the rest of Congress found time to give tax breaks to powerful special interests and the wealthiest Americans, Representative Woolsey instead voted to make the health and well-being of children in California the priority.  She is a dedicated advocate for children and has truly earned the distinction of being one of the best Representatives for children.”

A mother of four, and a grandmother of five, Woolsey has been active on issues pertaining to children and families throughout her time in Congress.  A Member of the Subcommittee on Early Child, Elementary and Secondary Education, Woolsey authored The Balancing Act, comprehensive legislation that will improve the lives of working families by providing paid family and medical leave, expanded child care opportunities, voluntary pre-school, in-school and after school options, family care assistance, and encouraging family friendly work places.

“I am honored by this award, and grateful for the work that the Children’s Defense Fund does each and every day,” Woolsey said.  “While children are only 25% of our population, they are 100% of our nation’s future.  Ensuring that every child has access to a quality education, good health care, and childcare is an investment we cannot afford to ignore.”
