Rep. Lynn Woolsey delivered the following statement on the House Floor in opposition to H.R. 2587:

“When the President spoke in this chamber a week ago and urged us to focus on jobs, believe me this bill wasn’t what he had in mind. 

"We need to move urgently to create new jobs, not jeopardize the ones we already have.

“This Outsourcers’ Bill of Rights is nothing more than a gift to the majority’s corporate cronies.  All it does is give unscrupulous employers the green light to retaliate against workers -- to punish them for engaging in union activities -- by picking up and leaving town.

“Someone tell me: how exactly is this supposed to revive our economy?

“It’s all a part of the Republican vendetta against workers and their collective bargaining rights.  It’s all a part of their orchestrated assault on the labor movement that built the American middle class. 

“This is not the time to be undermining or threatening the job security of any American.  Let’s defeat this bill and move immediately to pass a big, bold bill that finally puts our people back to work.”
