Sixth District Residents Vocal in Opposition to War

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Lynn Woolsey (D-Petaluma), today, announced that as of September 26, 2002 more than 7,780 constituents contacted her office about a possible war with Iraq and that 95% of the e-mails, calls, faxes and letters were in opposition to the United States waging war against Iraq.

In September, Rep. Woolsey voiced her opposition to war with Iraq and the Bush Doctrine of unilateral pre-emptive strikes. “The world will be better off if the United States works within the scope of international institutions instead of launching an unilateral attack against Iraq,” said Rep. Woolsey. “The United States should not be considering a pre-emptive, first strike. The United States is in the business of defending freedom, justice and liberty; not attacking other countries on a whim, no matter how strongly we disapprove of their leadership.”

Rep. Woolsey’s offices in Santa Rosa, San Rafael, and Washington, D.C. have been inundated with telephone calls, letters, e-mails and faxes from constituents expressing their concerns about an U.S. war against Iraq. “I am pleased to see the residents of California’s Sixth Congressional District taking an active stand about such a crucial issue,” said Rep. Woolsey. “I hear you and will work hard to represent your concerns for your future and that of your children as Congress debates a resolution for war with Iraq next week.”

Rep. Woolsey encourages all Americans to contact their respective Congressional members in the U.S. House and Senate to put a stop to this war with Iraq. Please call Capitol Hill directly at 202–225–3121 to make your voice heard or go to grass roots organizations like MoveOn.org that will make sure your concern is sent to your Member of Congress.
