WASHINGTON, D.C. - Representative Lynn Woolsey (D-Petaluma) announced today, that she has the support of Democratic Leader Richard Gephardt to take the northern California seat on the important Appropriations committee when Rep. Nancy Pelosi steps down, which appears will happen in the 108th Congress. Democratic Leader Gephardt supports Rep. Woolsey because he believes that she has the leadership qualities and legislative prowess to continue a strong and effective presence on behalf of northern California on the Appropriations committee.
"Rep. Lynn Woolsey will be a strong voice for Democrats as we fight to fund Democratic priorities,” said Democratic Leader Richard Gephardt. "She is the unanimous choice of her Northern California Democratic colleagues. Their enthusiastic support illustrates her leadership qualities and the high regard with which she is held. This will also be influential in securing this appointment and is a testament to the great respect her colleagues have for her."

Rep. Woolsey already secured the unanimous support of her Region II Democratic colleagues. Region II includes northern California, Hawaii, Guam and American Samoa. Rep. Woolsey was described by her colleagues as a "tireless advocate for her district and a valuable team player for our Party."

The support of Democratic Leader Richard Gephardt is crucial to obtaining one of the coveted seats on the Appropriations Committee.
