Democrats Support Woolsey For Seat on Appropriations Committee

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Representative Lynn Woolsey (D-Petaluma) announced today, that she has been endorsed by all of the members from Region II to take Nancy Pelosi’s seat on the important Appropriations Committee...meaning even more clout for the people of the 6th Congressional District.
In a letter to Minority Leader Richard Gephardt, eighteen of her colleagues from Region II, that includes northern California, Hawaii, Guam and American Samoa, wrote in support of Rep. Woolsey for a seat on the Appropriations Committee. They said that Rep. Woolsey has been a "tireless advocate for her district and a valuable team player for our (Democratic) Party. Lynn’s commitment to children, women, and working families closely mirrors the issues Nancy has championed during her Committee service. We believe that this type of loyalty and vision must continue to have a voice on the Appropriations Committee...and no one is better positioned than Lynn to champion this niche."

"My top priority has always been to effectively represent the interests of the people of Marin and Sonoma counties," said Rep. Woolsey. "Membership on the Appropriations Committee will enhance my ability to represent the district."

The Democratic Steering and Policy Committee, of which Rep. Woolsey is a member, determines appointments to House committees. The unanimous support of the members of Region II is crucial in obtaining the support of Democratic Leader Richard Gephardt. It is important to the people who live in Region II to continue to have a representative from northern California on the Appropriations Committee.

The Congressional Districts in Region II are represented by: Mike Thompson, Nancy Pelosi, Sam Farr, Barbara Lee, Tom Lantos, Pete Stark, Anna Eshoo, Robert Matsui, George Miller, Ellen Tauscher, Gary Condit, Calvin Dooley, Mike Honda, Zoe Lofgren, and Lynn Woolsey from California; Patsy Mink and Neil Abercrombie from Hawaii; Robert Underwood from Guam and Eni Faleomavaega from American Samoa.

"Lynn Woolsey is our clear choice because, as a progressive woman and one of the Bay Area’s most senior female Members, she is best situated to continue the able Committee service Nancy has provided our Region," the letter of support read.

Rep. Woolsey is the Ranking Member on the House Science Committee's Subcommittee on Energy, Chair of the Democratic Caucus Task Force on Children and a Senior Member of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce.
