Transportation & Infrastructure

Congresswoman Capito serves as a senior member of the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, which oversees all aspects critical to our transportation sector.  Congresswoman Capito currently serves on the Subcommittees on Highways and Transit, Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Material and the Water Subcommittee.

Her position on the Committee has allowed Congresswoman Capito to directly question the EPA’s anti-coal agenda.  The EPA’s program of enhanced coordination put in jeopardy hundreds of critical permits which place thousands of jobs and millions of dollars in revenue at stake.  Rep. Capito was one of the leaders in passing H.R. 2018 to return permitting power back to state regulators where it belongs.  Defending West Virginians from the War on Coal has been one of the most important responsibilities the Congresswoman has undertaken as a member of the Committee.

The Congresswoman played a critical role as a conferee with the Senate on a new long-term Surface Transportation Reauthorization.  This bill streamlined many of the redundant or unnecessary programs performed by the federal government including environmental reforms which will save money for the taxpayers and get projects completed ahead of schedule.  Additionally this bill preserved funding for Corridor H and will keep highway construction projects on track across West Virginia.  Through her role on the Transportation Committee, Congresswoman Capito has secured funding for a number of West Virginia projects including U.S. Route 35.

Highway construction supports thousands of jobs across West Virginia and our communities need safe roads and bridges.  Congresswoman Capito will continue to support investment in West Virginia’s infrastructure.
