57th Inaugural Ceremony Information

Information

Thank you for your interest in the 57th Inaugural Ceremony, to be held January 21st, 2013, in Washington DC.  This page will be updated with information concerning the details of the day's events, including how to obtain tickets to the ceremony and the parade.  My office is still in the process of gathering this information but please check back soon, or contact my DC office at (202) 224-2023.

Additional information about the ceremony can be found on the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies' website.

Swearing-in Tickets

Viewing the swearing-in ceremony from the National Mall does not require tickets.  The non-ticketed area of the National Mall begins at Fourth Street NW.

Virginians interested in attending the Inaugural Ceremony must submit a request by clicking on the Ticket Request button below.

Tickets for this event are in high demand and limited supply.  In an effort to afford the greatest number of constituents an opportunity to participate in the Inauguration, applicants must:

  • be Virginia residents (non-Virginians should contact their home state Senators and Representatives);
  • request no more than 4 tickets;
  • submit complete contact information on the form provided prior to December 15, 2012;
  • if selected to receive tickets, be able to pick them up in person in the Senator's Washington, DC office on January 18, 19 or 20.  You will be required to show photo identification at the time of pick-up.

Please be aware that not all who request tickets will receive them, but we will be in touch with everyone that places a request.  Constituents receiving tickets will be provided with detailed pick-up information by early January.

Tickets to the inauguration are free to the public and not intended for sale.  We will refuse tickets to anyone determined to be selling them.

Other than a photo ID, ticket recipients will not have to provide any personal information for security clearance; however, all guests will be required to go through vigorous security screening. A list of prohibited items will be made available in January.

In the past, gates have opened around 9:00 a.m. on Inauguration Day, and a musical prelude began at 10:30 a.m. For 2013, the exact gate opening time will be announced in January. Due to large crowds, everyone is encouraged to arrive early to ensure they will be cleared into ticketed areas by the time the ceremony begins at 11:30 a.m. When planning, please remember that the it is often cold and wet in January. The crowds will be very large and guests will likely be outside in the cold for at least three hours.
