    Kicking off the holiday season
    Our office is kicking off the holiday season today by displaying a gorgeous, 12-foot Fraser fir grown in Grayson County by Rodney and Cynthia Richardson. The Richardsons, who own Mt. Rogers Tree Farm, also are providing a Christmas tree to Governor Bob McDonnell and his family for the executive Mansion in Richmond.

    Crowdfunding a Startup: Danville & Blacksburg
    On Thursday, Senator Warner held the fifth and sixth in his series of ‘crowdfunding’ seminars for Virginia entrepreneurs and start up businesses. Today’s events, held in Danville and Blacksburg included panel discussions with a range of business leaders, including a representative from Kiva, the revolutionary online microfinancing platform, and the CEO of Blacksburg’s own Interactive Design & Development.

    On the Road: Marion, Abingdon & Bristol
    The final day of our three-day swing across southwest Virginia started off with a tour of the General Dynamics plant in Marion. The plant assembles parts of jets, including wings and nose cones, and employs 500 residents of Smyth county.

    U.S. Sen. Mark Warner is headed into the 9th District today, not to campaign but to brag on an $815,000 grant intended to boost outdoor recreation, downtown revitalization, and small business development in Southwest Virginia.

    Day Two: Buchanan, Bluefield, Dublin, Wytheville
    We kicked off day two of a three day swing around Southwest Virginia yesterday with a visit to Buchanan Mine #1 near the town of Oakwood. Senator Warner greeted miners before suiting up and heading down into the mine.

    Gallery Street was the wrong stop on the green line of the D.C. metro. Sounded right, considering that I was heading for a reception at Senator Mark Warner’s office where work from artisans and artists throughout Virginia was on display.
