    •  Dear Senator Warner, For 41 years Americans have been led to believe the fiction that Social Security, Medicare/Medicaid are not "affordable" without raising taxes, cutting benefits, or a combination of actions which ultimately reduces their income and security. There exists definitive, indisputable, logical reasoning, and financial accounting proof that this is not true. Moreover, because our nation is sovereign in its issue of our currency neither it nor any of its programs ever faces operational insolvency. Only politically self imposed constraints can force insolvency. This is axiomatic because we issue our dollars by fiat and only need to control inflation. We do that through tax and interest rate policy. Taxes and borrowing do not raise revenue per se to spend. Therefore, the Federal government, unlike state governments, firms and households is never constrained by revenue per se to spend. These other entities do not issue their own currency. They must have revenue or face insolvency. I encourage you to learn more about the differences between an economy based on gold standard, convertibility and fixed exchange rate rules and the one we have today based on on-convertibility, flexible exchange rates and sovereign fiat currency backed by the "good faith and credit of the government---we the people." Please feel free to contact Prof. Warren Mosler at www.moslereconomics.com for an in depth discussion of the issue of "affordability." Here's one of his many articles on Federal monetary and fiscal policy. He and Prof J.K. Galbraith collaborate on these issues along with Dr. Stephanie Kelton, and Prof L. Randall Wray. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/warren-mosler/the-mmt-grand-bargain-rai_b_2268875.html?utm_source=Alert-blogger&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Email%2BNotifications

make it to a booth before she is supposed to pick up her children at day care. Such costs amount to a modern-day poll tax. They must be eliminated." - Senator Warner and Congressman Gerry Connolly in the Washington Post this weekend

  8. On the anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack, I salute Mr. Clay Broga, a native Virginian, on his documentary Honor Flight The Movie. This story honors heroes, like my own father, who fought at Iwo Jima during World War II. It tells a sto...
ry about a community coming together to thank our veterans by flying them to the World War II Memorial in Washington, DC. For many, now in their late 80s and early 90s, this is the first time they have been thanked for their heroic service to our country.

Honor Flight will premiere tomorrow at the The Byrd Theatre & Foundation in Richmond. To get screening information, I encourage you to visit honorflightatthebyrd.eventbrite.com. There is no charge for World War II / Korean War Veterans.

  11. Senator Warner was pleased to play a small role in Intelsat's decision to move to Northern Virginia, as the Washington Business Journal reports: “Intelsat S.A.’s move to Tysons started innocently enough with a visit from Virginia Sen. Mark ...
Warner to the satellite provider’s D.C. headquarters. As Warner’s tour ended, Intelsat CEO David McGlade commented to the Senator that the satellite giant has a tough decision to make, between Maryland and Virginia… Moments later, McGlade said…he got a call from Governor Bob McDonnell, touting Virginia and asking what he could do to lure Intelsat to the Commonwealth.” (staff)

  19. The Virginia Chamber of Commerce is a powerful voice for the statewide business community, and in a keynote speech to its Economic Summit today, Senator Warner emphasized the important role that members could play in urging other members of Congress to compromise on a bipartisan solution. “If you ran a business by just pointing out what’s wrong with your competition, you’d be out of business,” Senator Warner said.
