we didnt have the dept of ed till 1979 and education scores have neither gone up or down. billions of dollars wasted, so i say get rid of it. if the govt wants to get involved in ed they should allow school choice and fight teachers unions. College degrees are not worth the debt anymore. its polticial demagoguery. If everyone has a degree it makes a degree worthless. we need more on the job training and vocational training. not people getting arts degrees at socialist universities

You make good points. My biggest disagreement with you is the idea that education should be cut. Investing in the intellects of our youth should be a top priority. Kennedy did it, and it worked out rather well for us for a long time. On the homeschooling, you might have enough time to teach them yourself, but many parents work full-time just to keep the rent and the bills paid, and keep food on the table for their kids. So until that ends, public education should be improved, not abandoned.

Yes thats true, parents did help create the demand but the govt subsidized it. Colleges know they can raise tuitions becuase they know the govt is subsidizing loans. I dont want to get rid of entitlements completely. but drastic cuts are needed. People should not be dependent on the govt. the free market provides a lot more and is more efficient. so, cut entiltelments, cut taxes, cut all areas of spending (even in education, oil, and military), simplify the tax code

PS: debt is a serious problem that I want our government to get out of. It IS possible while keeping SS, Medicare, Medicaid, ACA, etc. Some MAJOR expenditures we have in our budget are foreign interventionism, oil subsidization (Which, if applied to renewables, could create twice as much energy), and private prison subsidization (a newer expense). I'd love to see these reduced/eliminated. I think we just want to see different parts cut from the budget. It's a white meat/dark meat kind of thing.

I wasn't talking about government loans. Also, I gave a parenthetical mention to private scholarships. You don't like reading much, do you? Also the reason tuition costs are rising is because of inflation and the commissioners of the school. "Creating more demand" for education isn't the government's fault either. When you were a kid, did your parents tell you to do what you loved to do, or did they tell you to go to college? Although the gov't paid for the GI Bill, parents create the demand.

So much debt? Youthink that if someone took out a government loan they still wont be in debt? How about private scholarships? those exist too dont they? Lets not forget that the reason why tuition prices are rising is because universities know that plenty of students are applying because they are subsidized by the govt. govt created more demand which created higher prices. your idea of govt existence is a much more intrusive and inefficient govt that what i believe in

Private sector also does not service sewers or process waste. (Did you know that Beverly Hills has no sewer processing plant? They send their raw sewage to us common folk.) Imagine not being able to have a drink of water at your faucet, or not being able to flush your toilet?

lol you got a student loan? Well have fun with that. You know, Pell grants and other scholarships (many of which are admittedly not federally funded) don't require you to get into crippling debt just to pay for an education. Just sayin'. Also the private sector builds roads because the government subsidizes it to do so. I agree that in most cases (wars, prison culture, drone strikes, suppression of the press) the government does more harm than good but it should exist on some level.

Haha the "private sector does not build roads"?? Are you that ignorant? Do some research. The "private sector does not give poor children a chance to learn"?? Are you serious? When I have kids they will be home schooled. they are NOT going to get a shitty education from the govt. And I am taking out a PRIVATE student loan to go to college. you need to open your eyes and see that the govt does more harm than good.
