The Capitol is open to the public for guided tours only. The Capitol Visitor Center is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday except for Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Inauguration Day. Tours of the U.S. Capitol are conducted from 8:50 a.m. to 3:20 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Visitors with official business appointments may enter the Visitor Center as early as 7:15 a.m.

Tours of the Capitol are free, but require advanced reservations. Please visit http://www.visitthecapitol.gov/ to book a reservation or call 202-226-8000.

The Capitol Visitor Center is located on the East front at First Street and East Capitol Street, NE.

For security reasons, visitors are not permitted to bring backpacks, suitcases, food and beverages into the Capitol building. Please click here to see a list of prohibited items.

White House Tours

Public tours of the White House are available for groups of 10 or more people. Requests must be submitted through one's Member of Congress and are accepted up to six months in advance.These self-guided tours are available from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday (excluding federal holidays), and are scheduled on a first come, first served basis approximately one month in advance of the requested date. We encourage you to submit your request as early as possible since a limited number of tours are available.  Due to high demand in the spring and summer seasons, requests need to be submitted months in advance.  You will find out if the tour has been approved approximately three to four weeks before the scheduled date of the tour. All White House tours are free of charge. For the most current tour information, please call the 24-hour line at 202-456-7041. Please note that White House tours may be subject to last minute cancellation.
